SiirIstanbul is more far-reaching and ambitious this year.
Co-organized by the Beyoğlu Municipality and the Institute of History and Social Sciences, the third International Istanbul – Beyoğlu Poetry Festival to host 30 poets from 24 countries this year.
This year, the third International Istanbul – Beyoğlu Poetry Festival will meet with poetry-lovers between April 22 and 27. The festival will host 30 foreign poets from 24 countries as well as 30 poets from Turkey.
With the contribution of such literary institutions as the PEN Association, Association of Turkish Authors, and the “Free Window Literature Art Association, Adana,” in the content establishment phase, Siir Istanbul will meet this year with poetry-lovers in the historical spaces, streets, and avenues of Istanbul and in particularly Beyoğlu, as with the previous years.
Enriched with theatrical shows, concerts, panels, and seminars the festival brings a number of first-of-its-kind novelties this year. In the scope of the Festival, poetry reading activities and interviews with poets will be held with the participation literature clubs from seven high schools in Istanbul. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Ilber Ortaylı, history; Prof. Philippe Tancelin, poetry and philosophy, Yvan Tetelbom, Director, Paris Poetry festival, will address the auditions in the form of conferences and panels in various venues, and especially in universities.
“POETRY THEATERS” will be another color in the third SiirIstanbul. In the scope of a series of events to be hosted by Beyoğlu Municipality Muammer Karaca Theater, Genco Erkal and the Dostlar Theater will perform the “Insanlarim” based on the poems by Nazım Hikmet and Düzce Municipal Theater will perform “Üç Garip Şair,” based on the poems by Garip (Strange) School.
Boğaziçi Gösteri Sanatları Topluluğu (Kardeş Türküler) concert with the participation of guest poets and musicians will be the point where the festival will meet with music.
The Historical Konaks as restored and seventh of which recently opened under the title of “District Konaks,” by the Beyoğlu Municipality, will be the venue for workshops to be held with the participation of experienced and young poets.
